New to the practical art world and with no real formal sculptural training Shaughn O’Brien is dovetailing from his previous career into this new artistic venture. He has based most of his earliest pieces on the ideas of existing sculptors and those influences on these first works are obvious. He has produced a number of carved stone reliefs as well as three-dimensional stone carvings. Several of his bronzes (portrait and semi-abstract) from clay have been cast by Castle Fine Arts in Lanrhaeadr-ym-Mochnant. In addition to these, his first few found object, mixed media and more abstract pieces have been completed.
Several works have previously been selected for exhibition at the Granary Gallery (Weston Park) National Fine Arts Competition and he will exhibit at the Annual Medical Art Society Exhibition at the Royal Society of Medicine later this year, in July. A Shrewsbury resident, he sees this the opportunity to exhibit in the Open Studios project as his next step to being involved in the local Arts community and hopefully progressing a little more into the world of sculpture.
