Sara Mai terms her art form upcycling, making art from ‘waste’ streams, adding limited embodied energy.
Since 2010 she has been working on Plastic Pixel Art, the pixels are plastic bottle tops and the art is digital.
Sara streams the different pigmented plastics in their whole form, size and colour sorted, to create art in a pop-pointillist style.
There are limits to the available palettes which poses a challenge, Sara is interpreting landscape with the available hues, working towards ‘Floating Plastic Pixel Landscape Painting’. The tops are woven with fishing twine to form a sheet material of imagery which floats on large bodies of waters as a temporary visual art installation.
