Artists work

Shrewsbury Market Hall

Shrewsbury Market Hall is home to a vibrant community of artists and craftspeople. The gallery floor of the indoor market has transformed into a creative hub, housing artist and craft studios and the Shropshire Visual Art Network (VAN) Gallery.

Various resident working artists will be demonstrating at the VAN Gallery while the studios of Market Hall-based artists and craftspeople will be open to visitors.

Among these are mixed media artist Rosie Read whose work focusses on shape and texture inspired by architecture, natural forms, fragments and cultural artefacts.

Painter Karen Duffy has a strong interest in seascapes, using an impressionistic semi-abstract style to combine her love of colour and texture. She also specialises in dog portraiture.

Textile and glass artist Brigitta Shuker, of Studio Yi, can be seen seated at her workbench conjuring up glass art and jewellery or at her traditional handloom weaving items such as wall hangings and scarves. Brigitta spins and dyes her own wool using a wooden spinning wheel and natural dyes from plants, berries and wild flowers.

Alison Staples, of Romy Design, handcrafts products such as woven wall hangings, glass planters, leather bags and knitted items. Charika Manning, of Charika Creations, creates her own seasonal craft items, soft furnishings and wedding accessories.

Providing services to artists are: L And E Designs, situated on the gallery floor, specialising in laser-cutting, machine embroidery and engraving, and Framewerk, located on the main market floor, offering a full bespoke framing service.
